Jenny's Low Carb Facts and Figures

This is the new, improved version of the old "Jenny's Low Carb Facts and Figures Page" which has been hosted for many years on geocities.com.

Some of what you read here grew out of discussions in the late 1990s and early 2000s on the alt.support.diet.low-carb newsgroup.

This was supplemented with information from Lyle MacDonald's book, The Ketogenic Diet, which summarizes all the lab research available about low carb dieting at the time it was written in the late 1990s. I also learned a lot from Dr. Richard K. Bernstein's book, Dr. Bernstein's Diabetic Solution .

The focus of this web site is the use of a low carb diet for weight loss. The diets it refers to are those which prescribe eating less than 100 grams of carbs a day, such as Dr. Bernstein's diabetes diet, Atkins, and Protein Power.

These diets have been found to be most useful to people who have metabolic syndrome, which is characterized by insulin resistance, high blood pressure, abdominal fat in an apple pattern, and often, mildly elevated blood sugars after meals.
